Gorgeous Gaura lindheimeri

Gorgeous Gaura lindheimeri

Posted by Emerald Coast Growers on Oct 25th 2024

This North American native adds an airy, elegant charm, beautifully disguising its heat-tolerant, tough-as-nails nature. Pollinators and gardeners can't resist!

Gaura produces dainty blooms in white, pink, or bicolor from early summer to frost. Borne on slender, wand-like spikes, they’re in constant motion with the slightest breeze. The small, lanceolate leaves may be rich green, variegated, or red.

Breeders have tamed this natural rambler, with shortened internodes and increased branching. Compact forms like Belleza™ Dark Pink and 'Sparkle White' make beautifully behaved pots, striking on the retail shelf. But taller selections like 'Siskiyou Pink' and 'Whirling Butterflies' have fabulous garden merit.

Culture Notes:

Once established, Gaura tolerates high and low temperatures, but not wet feet. Healthy growth demands good drainage. Too-rich soil leads to leggy, floppy growth.

Gardeners, it’s tap-rooted, so transplant with care.
